Why are Spiritual Teachings so Contradictory?
If you have been exploring spirituality long enough, you would find so much contradictions.
How is it that our search for truth is met with so many different teachings?
You then get confused and discouraged by all the different truths out there.
Why can’t there be just one simple spiritual truth?
Spiritual teachings should NOT be contradictory
There should be no contradictions, not even in spirituality.
Truth is not subjective, it is objective by definition.
If a truth is subjective, you wouldn’t be searching for it.
The rules do NOT change on a multidimensional level as given for by the Hermetic Principles, which shares the “Universal Laws” that applies on all dimensions.
So if a spiritual teaching contradicts another, then you must discern why that is.
What is spiritual is true and what is true agrees with all nature.
A perfect example is the spiritual teaching that “Everything is a Cycle”.
You can see this in mathematics, in the stars, in human nature, and in God.
That is why you see the circle as the representation of the Cosmic Consciousness, God, Almighty, The All because it has no beginning or end.
And you can verify for yourself the cycle in all parts of life – psychological cycle, nature’s cycle, the solar system’s cycle, moral cycle, etc.
The idea of a God is shared among all traditions who knows not of the other, but presented in different names.
How all traditions came up with this is not a coincidence, but a spiritual truth recognized by all.
No matter who you are, what tradition you came from, or your world view, you will always find it because it is always there.
3 Reasons Why Spiritual Teachings May Seem Contradictory
There are reasons why one may see that a spiritual teaching is contradictory.
First, it may simply be that the spiritual teaching is downright wrong.
But when you resonate with the teaching and, yet, find it contradictory, there is something more to it.
Some of it is the fault of the teachers while other times it is our own misunderstanding.
Yet, the spiritual teaching may not even be contradictory at all!
It could be that the contradictory statements are, in fact, a paradox in which you must put the puzzle of duality together to fully understand it.
The 3 reasons are the fault of the teacher, our own misunderstanding, or that it is actually a paradox.
1. Fault of the Teacher
When I say it is the teacher’s fault, I do not mean that he or she is wrong.
But to share to light that we are divided beings, a shared fragment of the world Soul, who are only capable of one or more perspective but not the whole.
And so the spiritual teacher may only give a piece of the puzzle.
It goes something like, “We are All One.”
At once you find inspiration and resonated with this teaching only to find yourself completely alone and separated.
However, if the spiritual teacher say “We are All One, but you are an Individual,” then everybody gets confused.
And if everyone gets confused, no one learns anything!
Thus, many times you will find a spiritual concept or teachings embracing one main idea only.
Only if you fully understand the first truth will the higher truth be understood.
2. Our Own Understanding
People assume we all speak the same languages.
It doesn’t matter if we use the same characters and alphabets, all words do not mean the same thing.
I ask you, “What is Love?”
And then you will find that there are a thousand different answers.
Now it becomes increasingly difficult to explain an experience of a spiritual nature.
Some say that the world beyond the physical world is called the 4th dimension while others called it Astral realm or Spiritual realm.
With that model of thinking comes different ways of describing the experience.
The moment you get confused is when one model uses the same term but describes it for a different thing.
Astral Projection usually speaks about out-of-body experiences and they believed to have flown into the “Astral Dimension”.
People get to visit any part of the Earth and see their own body before them.
This is 100% not the Astral Realm as described in many occult experiences because the Astral Realm is a separate dimension that has nothing to do with Earth.
Now imagine everyone coming out and describing their own experiences using those same terms for different things.
You will no longer understand what the term actually means.
And then you will find that many spiritual teachings are contradictory.
That is why you must always define what the terms actually mean in context.
Context is everything.
We All Understand Differently
And that also means that we all understand differently.
While one prefers the love of God, another prefers the embrace of Allah.
Then you may not even believe in either, shortly, you find “The Universe” or “Cosmic Consciousness”.
They are all the same being!
But depending on one’s spiritual consciousness, they prefer certain ways of understanding.
Thus, no one understands the same way in the same meaning.
Just like you who is reading this may interpret what I mean in your own perspective.
What is a word but symbolism?
And a symbol can be understood in a thousand ways.
3. A Spiritual Paradox
Contradiction is not the same as a paradox.
Truth is found in paradoxes.
So a paradox is when two polarity appears opposite to each but makes sense in unity.
You can look at the world and say that it is all light.
Or you can see that there is only darkness in the world.
The real spiritual teaching is that there is light and darkness, the two are one and the same.
The greatest mystics and spiritual teachers say that “Reality is an Illusion.”
But here you see with your own eyes that reality is as real as it could get.
If you think that reality is an illusion and try to run through walls, you get smack in the face!
This is not a contradiction but a paradox.
While it is true that reality is an illusion, it is also true that the illusion we live in is reality.
In this specific paradox, we solve it by using the Principle of Correspondence “As Above, So Below.”
It is Cosmic Consciousness’s perspective that WE are the illusion.
But that WE, who are in the illusion, must take it as real.
As an analogy, the actor knows that he is playing a character but the character must live as though it was real.
This understanding allows the character to break the fourth wall so that he can speak to the actor.
In the same way, You, who is in the illusion, can escape this reality momentarily into Cosmic Consciousness.
All Roads Lead to Rome
Spiritual teachings are contradictory when the appearance of its tradition are different!
Each spiritual teachings and teachers come with its own garment, its own clothing brand.
This is to attend the spiritual needs of the people at the time along with their spiritual consciousness level.
You wouldn’t give the same teachings the same way to the Greeks as you do to the Christians or Buddhists even though the teachings are exactly the same (if you know how to look for it).
When you are seeking a spiritual teaching, do not look for The Spiritual Teaching but for Your Spiritual Teaching.
Because each person has a different spiritual consciousness level, one tradition favors you while the other is not for your specific energetic makeup and spiritual path.
Find the balance in your life and see to it which teachings resonated with you at this time.
As long as it is raises you vibrationally, that is what you spiritually need right now.
